Losing to Justin Verlander is nothing to hang your heads over, but after the heart-breaking loss in Boston Thursday evening, it really feels like we should be.
Luckily for me, there’s not a whole lot to say about the game that got the Tigers to within 1/2 game of the Sox.
The south siders got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the top half of the third inning, but Jake Peavy gave away the lead, as the Tigers answered with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning. Now, I’m still one tipping his cap to Peavy on his efforts in 2012, but I do not think this game, in which he let up 4 runs in 7 IP, was a “good” one.
I know the Tigers offense is hot, I know it was a tough atmosphere to pitch in, and I know he got beat by some of the league’s best. But the fact of the matter is that Peavy “had it” against Tiger hitters when there wasn’t much pressure, and he did not at all “have it” when he needed “it” most.
I’m not going to discuss the offense…the reason we only scored 2 runs is simply “Verlander.”
But I would like to put everything in perspective for you Sox fans. We’re still in 1st place. I know we’re faltering and the Tigers are shining, but that was bound to happen sooner or later. What’s important is that the team rebounds soon, and luckily for us Chris Sale, our stopper, is on the bump tomorrow. We need him to be the Chris Sale we’ve known all year, and hopefully the offense can muster up enough to give us a shot to win the series on Sunday.
It’s just that simple. Let’s move on now that Verlander is in the past. But with that being said, it’s time to take a deep breath and regroup. So go get ’em tomorrow boys.
