– Boy, It was just a frustrating game tonight. There’s really no other way to put it. Sure, the team was without Paul Konerko and Alex Rios, but you expect the team to score more than zero runs off of Jeremy Guthrie. He is far from a good pitcher, and tonight, the Sox made him look like Cy Young. Other than AJ’s hit in the ninth (which was off Greg Holland), there was NO timely hitting. It was just a frustrating game where the offense really got nothing going.

– With that said, there’s no reason to overreact. The White Sox really haven’t had any games this year where you say “how did they lose to that guy?” Zach and I were saying at the game about how with how nicked up this team is, they look a bit tired and a day off would really help them. Fortunately, they have one of those tomorrow.
– Jose Quintana pitched another fantastic game, going into the eighth inning. He really only made one mistake on the home run by Mike Moustakas, as I felt like Salvador Perez’s home run was just a really great piece of hitting. You can see why Kansas City is so high on that guy.

– Orlando Hudson did get a hit tonight, but another think Zach and I and Matt have talked about is how he really doesn’t serve a purpose on this team anymore. He can only play one position with complete competence and he really can’t hit. It would be better for the team if they had a decent left-handed bat like Dan Johnson on the bench who can give us some pop and may be a decent pinch-hit option late. He could play first and a little bit of third, and Ray Olmedo would become the main utility guy unless Kenny Williams finds a better option on the waiver wire.
– Speaking of Johnson, it looks like he may be up here regardless, as there seems to be a chance that Paulie could go on the new 7-day concussion disabled list. Robin said today that he has a mild concussion, and Johnson would be the most logical option to get the call-up if our captain had to miss a week. Zach will touch on this tomorrow morning, so stay tuned for that.

– Zach and I attended tonight’s game and had some great seats behind the Sox bullpen. We saw a few interesting things. A fan came up to Don Cooper and gave him a box of chocolates! It was cool to see the way the bullpen guys acted, as Nate Jones, Addison Reed and Leyson Septimo were acting silly. During the hat game on the scoreboard, the three of them were trying to block each other’s view. Also, when Alexei was up in his last at-bat, Jones and Reed were trying to emulate him in the 2008 September game against the Tigers, when Alexei immediately raised both hands in the air after contact. It was just cool to see the kids in the bullpen really just be kids.

– After an off day tomorrow, the White Sox welcome the red-hot Oakland A’s to town. The first game on Friday night has a pitching matchup of Gavin Floyd facing off against ex-Sox top prospect Brandon McCarthy. One of us will be posting a series preview either tomorrow or Friday, so stay tuned to “GSB!” for that and the latest content!
