Before the game Friday night, the White Sox made four roster moves …
- Placed 2B Orlando Hudson on the 15-day DL
- Demoted LHP Leyson Septimo to AAA Charlotte
- Activated 1B Paul Konerko from 7-day disabled list
- Recalled LHP Hector Santiago from AAA Charlotte
Here’s what you need to know about each of those:
- Orlando Hudson has struggled mightily at the plate & will likely be with the team with extended rosters in September … but I wouldn’t be surprised if newly-signed Jose Lopez takes over for a good portion of his (and maybe Ray Olmedo’s) playing time. Lopez hit .249 for Cleveland this year and got off to a quick start in AAA Charlotte.
- Leyson Septimo simply got out-done by Donnie Veal, who will likely be the lefty specialist for the rest of the season … or at least until further notice. He’s been darn near perfect in his limited action with the Sox so far.
- Konerko, who got concussed when he was hit in the head early last week, is returning and should be at full stregnth. With Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciedo hitting well, it’ll be hard for opposing pitchers to throw around PK … he’ll probably get a lot of good pitches to hit right away as he returns Friday night.
- Hector Santiago was stretched out as a starter in AAA and did pretty well. The team now has two options for a long reliever, he and Phil Humber. Santiago, a pretty hard thrower, could still see some action in later innings when needed, especially considering he throws from the left side.
Well, there you have it. Even though a lot is changing, it seems we’re getting a better look at the real White Sox day-by-day.
