Some games have lots of takeaways, stir up heated debates, and really stick with you. Saturday night’s bout was not one of those games.
The game came down to two things: Jake Peavy’s inconsistency and the Sox squandering good scoring opportunities. Considering how good the Jakemeister has been to this point and how well the team has been executing with RISP, the reversal of fortune for a night isn’t anything to get too worried about.
Yeah, I know it’s frustrating to see Luke Hochevar propel his team to another win against us, but the fact of the matter is he’s just one of those guys that has our number. We got to Cy…I mean Bruce Chen last night, who had dominated the south siders in the recent past. Sometimes you just get beat even though you have the upper hand on paper. That was the case Saturday evening as Hochevar took down Peavy.
There were a couple of small positives, though, and me being the optimist that I am, I always like to point them out.
- Adam Dunn rocketed a 451-foot bomb to center field, as he looks like he’s going to be able to put together a half at least somewhat similar to what he did in the first half of the 2012 campaign.
- Peavy tossed 7+ innings, giving the bullpen rest, for the most part, after having to go 9 innings on Friday.
- Alejandro De Aza and Kevin Youkilis continued to have some good, long at bats, which in my opinion, is something that you always need the table setters at the top of the order to do.
So tomorrow it’s the stopper, Chris Sale on the bump, as the Sox look to take the series from the Royals…something that is always a huge positive on the road, no matter who you’re facing. Let’s hope the men in black can pull it out.
