-This one STINGS. A lot of people will blame Robin for the loss, and he made some questionable decisions today, but people need to realize one thing: you aren’t going to win many baseball games when you score one run. I don’t care if Chris Capuano has been great, a team should never be satisfied with just plating one run.
-Now, Robin, I like you man, but it was a rough game for you. I’m not sure why you took out Quintana after just 77 pitches. Sure, Addison Reed is your closer, but with Quintana dealing and at a good pitch count, I definitely would rather see Quintana finish the game. The Dodgers had to get more confidence just when they saw a different pitcher on the mound.
– Also, Robin took a page out of the Ozzie Guillen book today, playing all four reserves in Jordan Danks, Brent Lillibridge, Tyler Flowers and Eduardo Escobar. It seems like this has been the White Sox way for a while: play the starters the whole week and rest everyone on Sunday. Not sure if I am a fan of stacking it like that, but these guys do need a break everyone once in a while. Especially AJ, as I am a tad bit concerned that all these innings he’s caught this season may catch up to the 35 year old. Regardless, you need to score more than one run, no matter who is in the lineup.
– Jordan Danks made a rookie mistake on that play in the 10th inning. Diving is not the right play in an extra inning tie. You have to knock that down and keep the runner at first base.
– Man, I’m more impressed with Jose Quintana with every passing start. This guy just has such an understanding on how to pitch to his strengths. We’ve reached the point where he belongs in this rotation permanently, even if it’s at the expense of more experienced guys like Gavin Floyd and Phil Humber.
– What a crazy sequence in the bottom of the sixth there. It was probably the wrong call, but I’m confused as to why Don Mattingly waited that long to argue the call. Anyhow, Eduardo did a great job of selling it, and how about then having to go translate for Quintana! Maybe he has value that none of us know about (haha).
Well, the good news is the White Sox do have three easier opponents coming up in the Cubs, Brewers and Twins. Now’s the time to separate themselves from the rest of the division, but in order to do that, they need to play better baseball.
