– As a baseball nut, I LOVE great pitching matchups, and that’s what we had tonight. It was two all-star pitchers at their best. In the end though, it paid off that Zach Greinke threw relatively less pitches than Chris Sale, as it allowed Milwaukee to go straight from Greinke to a save situation.
– While sometimes you just run into a great pitcher like tonight, you still expect to get some offense going no matter who you are facing. Sure, this wasn’t a night where the Sox were going to have any sort of offensive outburst, but they could have gotten creative with things to try and get something rolling. For example, I thought a hit-and-run with Beckham and Konerko or just straight up having Beckham stealing in the 10th would have been a good decision based on how things were going. Also, while I usually advocate being aggressive, I think later in the game was a time to work the count a bit more since Greinke’s pitch count was way down.
– There’s not really much else to say about this one. As far as the day goes, I do like the moves the Sox made. DFA’ing Fukudome in favor of Jordan Danks was definitely the correct move, as it was clear that Kosuke is pretty much worthless at this point. As far as Humber goes, regardless if he is really injured or not, some DL time will likely do him some good and give him a chance to clear his head. Corresponding with that, I know our guy Zach is real high on Brian Bruney. While I’m not quite the Bruney aficionado that Zach is, I do think this is a guy who can stick around, making Will Ohman a great DFA candidate whenever Humber or John Danks return.
It’s Dylan Axelrod making his second start of the season tomorrow against the crafty lefty Randy Wolf. The Sox usually seem to struggle with guys like Wolf, so Axelrod will have to be on his game. Dylan is a guy I’ve been high on for a while, and I think now that he should get a few starts here to showcase himself, he could be a nice fourth or fifth starter. Let’s hope that starting tomorrow, he proves me right.
