– “Advil” Addison does it again: puts you on the edge of your seat, but finds a way to get it done. The complexion of the last at-bat changed completely when Brian Dozier took a 2-1 pitch at 93mph right down the pipe. Not quite sure what he mindset was there. Whatever, I’ll take it haha.
–  The Sox dodged a big bullet there in the ninth inning. Ryan Doumit’s hit should have in no way been a double, as Rios, a veteran, has to know WAY better than to dive for that ball. It reminded me of when Jordan Danks did that against the Dodgers back in June and it in large part cost the White Sox the game. With a two-run lead and two outs, it’s certainly not the time to make a risky dive for the ball. That could have been a very costly mistake.
– It’s about time the Sox won one of these games for Jake Peavy, as he’s lost his fair share of 2-1 or 1-0 games this season. After starting off a bit rough, he settled in nicely, facing just three hitters in each inning from the fourth to the seventh. It didn’t seem like he had his great stuff either, and shutting down a team without that shows how great of a pitcher Jake is.
– Is it just me, or does it seem like the Sox have scored a ton of first inning runs this year? I’m not sure, but I’d bet money that the first inning is the inning the Sox have scored the most runs in this season. That’s a testament to Alejandro De Aza doing his job at the top of the order (three more hits, a double, a run, a stolen base and an RBI tonight) and Robin Ventura for getting his team ready to play each day.
– Tyler Flowers probably had his best game of the season offensively. Much like a lot of young power hitters, his problem is he tries to kill the ball every pitch. He’s never going to hit above .250, but if he goes up there with the kind of approach he did today and just focus on taking the ball where it is pitched, that average is going to rise. He doesn’t need to try to hit bombs all the time. He’s so strong that he will hit them regardless.

-Well, after getting swept by the Detroit Tigers a week and a half ago, the Sox have won seven out of nine. This is why I LOVE Robin as the manager, the team’s mindset always seems to be in such a good place. I am thankful for what Ozzie Guillen did here, but if is managing this team, I don’t think they would have seen first place after getting swept in Detroit, let alone re-gain and build the lead within 10 days.
The Southsiders have a big series coming up at home against the Angels, and Zach Greinke awaits on Friday night. Greinke, if you remember, beat the Sox 1-0 back in June when he was a member of the Brewers. The Sox usually hit Greinke better than most teams and I don’t think he dominates quite to that extent again, but regardless, Phil Humber is going to have to be on the top of his game Friday night.
